Bananas: Bunch 1 Crushies

The first release of Bananas consisted of multicolor bananas that came in bunches of 3, with a total of 24 characters to collect. In addition to the character, each banana also comes with a display vine for your toy, sticker gems, and 2 squishy friends (none of which are featured on the collector sheet). This series features one ultra rare crushie, and four rare crushies; this rarity is consistent throughout most crushie series. Advertising for the toys began around September 11th, 2018, according to the brand's Youtube channel. These series 1 crushies are also labeled as the "Banana Baobab Tree" crushies on the collector sheet.

Why such a dramatic shift from science fiction art to cheap (but cute) surprise toys? I'm SO glad you asked...

On one of my many previous treasure hunts, I came across #15 of the above series. Without knowing then what it was I had found, I thought to myself, "Is this meant to be Baphomet? Who would make Baphomet so cute and adorable? I must have him." So I bought it, itching again to find out what franchise my strange demon goat was from.

Well, it was from Bananas. Shout-out to Five Below for carrying some of the later Banana Bunches-- I recognized the style immediately.

There are so many more series and variations of these toys, that I think making separate pages for each one may become tedious and busy. (And as a perfectionist, I can't NOT document one and not the rest...) So, I may compile the pages in the future or force myself to learn to use boxes and grids in HTML to make more concise webpages. We'll see where that takes me. :] --> SURPRISE! I did it already.

Bananas: Bunch 2 Crushies

Bunch 2 of the Bananas surprise toys began advertising in April 2019, expanding the initial collection of 24. While another 24 crushies were released in new rainbow banana packaging, lemons and limes with single crushies were also released. Bananas still come in either sets of 3 or single bananas, and the new lemons and limes can be found in pairs or single fruits. Lemons and limes bring another 25 crushies to the collection, for a total of 73 released crushies at this point in time. Each separate fruit still comes with 2 squishy friends, a hanger vine, and some stickers. Crushies from this series of bananas are also labeled as "Veni Rainbow Tree" crushies on the collector sheet.

Bananas: Bunch 3 Crushies

Bunch 3 is another broad expansion to the series-- 24 crushies were released in the new ice-cream-themed bananas, and another 24 through the new strawberries. The Bunch 3 bananas and strawberries come with a vine hanger, 2 squishy friends and some stickers, per usual. I also want to make note that this banana bunch is labeled on the collector sheet as "Wild Blossom Tree Bunch 3", as seen here. For the strawberries, these fruits specifically can contain a Limited Edition crushie. These aren't listed in the Strawberries collection on the toy website, but can be seen here on the collector sheet. In total, there are now 121 crushies to collect!

Bananas: Bunch 4 Crushies

Thus far, each new bunch of crushies has brought lots of new and fun critters to collect. Bunch 4 consists of Bananas Bunch 4, Pineapple Surprise, and Huggers. This is the last "great" release from Bananas, however, as no later series have any records on the website, with even fewer available to find on the web. With Bunch 4, we get 24 crushies released in the new Bimbleberry Tree banana bunches, another 24 from the pineapples, and 12 from the huggers. The running total of crushies is now 205 (including Baby Bananas metioned later). Huggers appear to have begun advertisement around November 26th, 2019 according to the commercial here, but no commercials for the pineapples or new bananas exist on this channel. To see ads for those, we move to another channel which posted the following advertisement on October 3rd, 2019, dating them as released before the huggers. This channel also has yet ANOTHER Bunch 4 release-- Baby Bananas! The only advertisement I can find documenting these is from March 9th, 2021, which doesn't feel like an accurate release date. Regardless, 24 baby crushies can now be collected, but don't appear to have names.

One new thing about Bunch 4 Bananas is that the usual freebies to accompany the crushie have changed-- now instead of a vine hanger, there is a small ring with a peg on it to display and/or wear your crushie. The stickers remain as they were, and now squishy friends no longer come with each fruit. For Pineapples Surprise, crushies come with the usual stickers and vine, in addition to a peg bracelet as another means to wear/display your crushie. Curiously, the Huggers also have different freebies. As seen here, each Hugger comes with stickers and what appears to be a face mask with the design of the crushie you got. I initially thought these came with two stickers rather than the usual one, but in this commercial it's easier to see that Huggers also include a small photograph of the crushie you got and its best friend. For Baby Bananas, each crushie comes with one ring, pacifier, and bottle. No stickers in these!

Bananas: Bunch 6 Crushies

Bunch 6 is the first series where I can find nothing but a few listings, and, curiously, upon looking closer at the blurry collector sheet here, I strongly suspect that Bunch 6 is merely a re-release of the Strawberries Surprise crushies, albeit with new names for each character. Feels like any creativity (and funding) seems to have disappeared.

Bananas: Bunch 7 Crushies

Bunch 7 is the last release I can find information on, and lacks just about any flair. Another 24 crushies were released in this series, all pretty obvious repaints of past releases. These bananas come as singles, and have the same stickers and crushie ring as the past couple releases. Please note that the only resource I found with the collector sheet shown was the Youtube video at the start of this section, and it has significant glare in the image. I did my best to fill in the gaps, but some things may be wrong (like having two #711's, how'd that happen?)

Aaand with that, we've covered all the toys I can find record of! In some of the commercials playsets are advertised, but I found nothing there. Another curious flaw I found while making this post was that in Bunch 4, there is an owl crushie mysteriously only present on the collector sheet and not on the website-- another crushie takes its place there! Otherwise, I think these toys are just okay. Some are cute, but many just seem to be repaints of the same plastic critter. I also don't like that their website and socials are all dead... Makes me believe even more that this toy series was discontinued.
